Bob Aziz and Jennifer Myers named to OUA Management Committee
BURLINGTON, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced Friday the appointment of two new members to its Management Committee, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
BURLINGTON, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced Friday the appointment of two new members to its Management Committee, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Joining the Management Committee are Bob Aziz and Jennifer Myers. The appointment was approved on Wednesday, June 7 during the OUA Special Meeting at the U SPORTS AGM.
“I’d like to welcome Bob to the OUA Management Committee for next season”, said Gord Grace, OUA CEO. “Bob brings years of valuable experience and a fresh perspective to an already strong group of leaders as we continue to work together to help shape the future of university sport in Ontario.”
Aziz has been the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Oxford Properties Group for the past seven years. He will serve on the OUA Management Committee as a valued advisor on business, governance and legal affairs.
Before joining Oxford Properties Group, Aziz was most recently President of Great Gulf Homes and prior to that he was Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at TD Bank Financial Group and a Partner at Torys LLP and Davies Ward Phillips Vineberg LLP.
In addition, Aziz has also served as the Director of the Sick Kids Foundation, a position he held for over nine years, as well as the Board and Capital Campaign Chair of the Lighthouse for Grieving Children.
A long-serving member of several OUA and U SPORTS committees, Myers is currently the Executive Director, Athletics & Recreation at York University, a position she has held since August 2008.
“Jennifer will be a welcomed addition back to the OUA Management Committee,” Grace said. “A passionate leader within university sport in Canada, she will undoubtedly strengthen and complement our team.”
Myers previously served as OUA President from 2012-2015 and oversees the operation of 19 Lions varsity sport teams, one of the largest intramural programs in Ontario, more than 30 sport clubs, campus recreation and the Tait McKenzie Centre.
A graduate of York University with a bachelor of physical education degree and a certificate in sports administration, Myers continued her education at Western University, where she received a master of arts in sports management.
Beth Ali, Executive Director of Athletics & Physical Activity at the University of Toronto, will also take on the role of OUA representative on the U SPORTS Board next season. Ali replaces Carleton Ravens Director, Jennifer Brenning, who graciously served a four year term in the role.
