Gaels Young earns OUA Peak Performer of the Week
Burlington, Ont. – Dylan Young has been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Peak Performer of the Week for the period ending November 24, 2019.
Peak Performer – Dylan Young, Queen’s Gaels, Rugby
The OUA MVP, Dylan Young, led the Gaels to a national bronze at the Canadian University Rugby Championships in Montreal and was named First-Team Tournament All-Star for his efforts last week.
After the Gaels opened the tournament with a dominant 36-10 victory over No.7 McGill, Young scored a penalty kick and was instrumental in the Gaels attack as Queen’s suffered a close semifinal loss against the Victoria Vikes. Down two scores, the Gaels elected for a quick penalty to cut the lead to 14-8 as Young knocked the ball through the posts; however, the game ended with that score. Young won Game MVP for his performance in the match.
He saved his best performance for the bronze medal match, as Young recorded 21 points in the Gaels victory over host Concordia on Sunday morning. Young opened the match in dominant fashion scoring three consecutive tries as the Gaels jumped out to a 21-5 lead. Queen’s never looked back from there as the Kingston squad took home the 31-22 behind Young and his second straight Gaels man of the match award.
