Carly Zanatta (Fort Erie, Ont.) – 3rd yr. – Guelph Gryphons – Rowing
Guelph rower Carly Zanatta has been selected as the OUA Peak Performer, presented by Investors Group, after she became the first member of the varsity program to be named OUA Female Athlete of the Year.
The third-year food science major won gold in the lightweight single event as well as bronze in the heavyweight single event at the OUA Rowing Championships in St. Catharines last Friday.
Medalling in both events is rarely seen as lightweights need to weigh under 59kg, which typically limits their ability to generate enough power to compete against the bigger, stronger athletes of the heavyweight class.
Zanatta and the Gryphons will now shift their focus to the upcoming Canadian University Rowing Championships this weekend (Nov. 5-6) at the International Flatwater Centre in Welland, ON.
