Male Athlete of the Week – Zane Grossinger (Richmond Hill, Ont.) – 1st Year – Queen’s Gaels
While he may not have racked up the points for his on-court efforts, the electric play of Queen’s men’s volleyball player Zane Grossinger was as impactful as anyone in the Gaels quarterfinal match, helping him to earn OUA Male Athlete of the Week honours.
Grossinger and the Gaels went into London and came away with a 3-1 win over the Western Mustangs in their OUA quarterfinal match to advance to the Final Four this weekend. The rookie setter had the Gaels offence flying all over the court, finishing with a career-high tying 56 assists in the match. This astounding average of 14 assists per set was nearly five more than he averaged in the regular season, showing just how much the recently named OUA East Division Rookie of the Year was able to elevate his play in his first postseason game.
Grossinger was also able to pick up seven digs and team up for a pair of blocks in the victory over the higher-seeded Mustangs, setting up a semifinal match with the Ryerson Rams.
