Abraha, Foley, Naamani named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Daniel Abraha, Anna Foley, and Aya Naamani have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending October 6th, 2024.
Daniel Abraha, Golf, Queen’s
Abraha captured the Len Shore trophy for the men's individual title at the OUA Golf Championships this weekend in Windsor, Ont.
The Kingston, Ont. native finished with a final score of 4-under, the only golfer on the men's side to finish below par. The first-year business student held the top spot on the leaderboard all weekend. He shot a 4-under (67) on Day 1, and even par on Day 2.
Abraha was named an OUA first team all-star for his performance this fall.
Anna Foley, Golf, Toronto
Foley was named the OUA women’s individual champion and awarded the Judy McCrae Trophy for her efforts on the weekend at the OUA Golf Championships in Windsor, Ont. The second-year PhD candidate finished with a two-day total of 148, including a Day 2 round of 71 to walk away with the win.
She was awarded an OUA first team all-star nod.
Foley’s outing helped the Toronto Varsity Blues women's golf team win the Liz Hoffman Trophy as team champions. Toronto finished tied atop the leaderboard with the Guelph Gryphons with a combined team score of 471, but the Blues won the tiebreak to take the overall title - their 10th in program history and second in the past three seasons.
Aya Naamani, Soccer, Waterloo
Naamani opened the weekend with a phenomenal game, netting six goals in Waterloo’s dominant 7-0 win against Algoma on Saturday. The rookie striker was clinical, going six for seven in shots on goal, showcasing her incredible scoring ability and playing a key role in the team's victory.
Naamani also added to her points total this weekend with another goal and assist in the Warriors 2-1 win in their second game against the Thunderbirds. The Oakville, Ont. native is currently tied for fourth in the OUA for points productive two-game stretch.
