Olaye and Ajakaiye named OUA athletes of the week

Burlington, Ont. – Osa Olaye and Olutosin Ajakaiye have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending September 22nd, 2024.

Osa Olaye, Rugby, McMaster

Olaye helped her McMaster Marauders secure the 33-12 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues in convincing fashion on Saturday.

The Mississauga, Ont. product had a brilliant start to the game. She quickly responded to Toronto’s opening try with one of her own, making her way through defenders to get McMaster on the board.

Shortly following her first points of the game, the third-year lock made her way to the end zone twice more. Olaye’s efforts accounted for 15 of the Marauders’ 21 points in the first half. 

She has nine tries so far this season and sits tied for second among OUA’s top scorers with 45 points.

Olutosin Ajakaiye, Soccer, Nipissing

Ajakaiye helped the Nipissing Lakers continue their hot streak and complete a perfect weekend with a 4-1 win over the Trent Excalibur and 2-1 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, respectively.

The Ottawa native found the back of the net twice against Trent on Saturday.

The second year forward stepped up his game for the Sunday matchup with the Ridgebacks, opening the scoring for the Lakers. After Ontario Tech tied it up, he would also score what would eventually be the game winner.

Ajakaiye sits tied for fourth in the OUA leaderboard with five goals so far this season.
