Brooks and Campoli named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Cassidy Brooks and Chris Campoli have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending September 1st, 2024.
Cassidy Brooks, Soccer, Nipissing
For the third straight season Cassidy Brooks recorded a season and home opener hat-trick. The fourth year Belfountain, Ont. native scored all three of Nipissing’s goals in their 3-0 win over Carleton on Saturday afternoon.
Brooks got the Lakers on the board 30 minutes into the opening half with a beautiful cross from teammate Taylor Schell. She would net her other two goals in the second half, the final goal of the game coming off another solid pass, knocking the ball off the crossbar into the net.
The forward loves to make the most of a home opener. In 2022 she scored three goals in Nipissing’s 11-0 win over Laurentian and did it again in 2023 in their 6-0 win over TMU.
This hot start for the master’s student bodes well for the Lakers as they look to be in playoff contention come late October.
Chris Campoli, Soccer, TMU
The forward wasted no time in finding the scoresheet to open the 2024 season. Chris Campoli scored his first hat-trick as a member of the Bold to open TMU’s season with a 4-0 win over Queen’s.
The graduate student’s first goal came off a penalty 11 minutes into the match. His second came on a shot attempt made from well outside the 18-yard box.
Campoli, from Woodbridge, Ont., secured his final goal on his second penalty kick of the evening in the 95th minute.
Campoli took six shots, five of those on goal. He was a perfect two for two on penalty kicks.
TMU and Campoli will take the momentum of their home opener into the weekend as they prepare to face their cross-town rivals the Varsity Blues.
