McMurray, Ginzburg named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Ainsley McMurray and Eric Ginzburg have been named OUA athletes of the week, fueled by Milk2Go Sport, for the period ending February 18, 2024.
Ainsley McMurray, Swimming, Toronto Varsity Blues
It was another successful weekend in the books for Ainsley McMurray and the Toronto Varsity Blues as they took home the OUA women’s swimming championship title.
McMurray, a fifth-year environmental science major, was recognized as the 2024 OUA swimmer of the year after a spectacular multi-medal winning performance during the Blues run to a 10th consecutive provincial title this weekend.
Individually, McMurray won gold in the 50m butterfly, and 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events - additionally setting a new OUA record in the 50m category. Then in the relays, the environmental science major from Montreal, Que. was a member of the Blues record setting gold medal 4x100m freestyle team, while also winning gold with the 4x100m medley relay team.
Overall, she earned six provincial gold medals and set two new OUA records throughout championship weekend.
Eric Ginzburg, Swimming, York Lions
Making a splash at the OUA Swimming Championships on the men’s side, Eric Ginzburg swam fast and set records to lead the way for the Lions all weekend long.
The sophomore from Toronto, Ont. started the Friday competition by breaking his own OUA record in the 100m butterfly with a gold-medal winning swim of 52.74s. Ginzburg continued to make his mark on day two by winning gold in the 50m fly and 50m freestyle with times of 24.09 and 22.43, respectively. Wrapping up the competition in style, the kinesiology and health sciences student took home yet another top score in the 100m freestyle with a time of 49.30.
Not only was Ginzburg golden time and time again, he also did so to the tune of multiple individual records for York and a pair of school relay records. For these decorated efforts, he was named the OUA swimmer of the year.
